"You should have told me, why didn't you?"

Gilbert looked down at her with a tormented expression upon his face. It was as if he were reluctant to say in words what it was that he had done to hurt her so. Slowly, he started walking towards his Hungarian lover. Elizaveta's eyes expanded as realization hit her. Tears welled up in her eyes and she slowly shook her head. The Prussian tensed when he saw this, preparing for the worst assault to be thrown against him. It was no less than what he had deserved because he had done the unforgivable. He had cheated on Elizaveta. It was a low act.

"Don't tell me it was Bella…"

Gilbert looked down and her heart sank. He had cheated with Bella. Naturally, he made sure the Belgian didn't know about his relationship with the Hungarian woman but it had happened all the same. The moment Bella found out, she slapped him across the face and ran out on him. Bella threatened to tell his friends if he contacted her again so he kept his distance but bartenders tended to gossip because they had nothing better to do. Word got back to Elizaveta. Fearfully, Elizaveta contacted her and Bella regretfully told her the truth, sobbing for forgiveness because she didn't know and because she had betrayed her as a friend. Bella was easy to forgive because in ignorance she did not know what she did was wrong. Gilbert was a different story.

"Is it?"

Elizaveta took a step forward. She panicked and grabbed Gilbert's arm. Gilbert refused to even look at her, ashamed of what he had done. So silence wrapped around the two of them. Tension was so thick that you could cut it with a knife. They were walking on eggshells and both of them knew it, Gilbert more than Elizaveta. There was no explanation of what he did or why he did it. He just did. He was impulsive and he had ruined something that he had. So the Prussian stood there and said nothing to him. However, he didn't need to say anything. His silence was all the answer that Elizaveta needed.

"It all makes sense now. You said you loved me…"

His green eyes flared with judgment. Gilbert was arrogant. He was reckless. He was dangerous. This time he had gone too far. However, Elizaveta's words brought back a bit of the backbone Gilbert once had. This time, Gilbert was the one to stand up, walked up to the window and turned towards Elizaveta. There was anger in the Prussian's eyes. Why would he be angry? What right did he have to be angry? Elizaveta was the one who had been hurt because of his actions. The only one she could find comfort in now was Roderich… He had always been by her side – Roderich – her best friend. She would see him after this. She was done with Gilbert.

"Did you love me, ever?" the Prussian demanded.

Gilbert's face was filled with pain as he stared down at his lover. He took a deep breath, gaining some confidence. Elizaveta stared at him for a moment, trying to figure out what she could feel. Did she ever really love Gilbert? Was this ever really a surprise that he had cheated on her? She frowned. She bowed her head, thinking about it. She spent more time with Roderich. She enjoyed her time with the Austrian. His music brought a smile to her face. He made her comfortable. Did he ever really love Gilbert after all? Or had her heart belonged to someone else all this time? She swallowed thickly.

"I've got to know. Go ahead, lie to me and tell me you did. Make me feel like the piece of shit I am. Did you love me or not?"

Elizaveta didn't dare to look at him. Her eyes were already filled with tears because of the betrayal she felt. Did her prior feelings really matter now when she had already been hurt? She knew that Bella had not intentionally caused this to happen. Gilbert was the one to keep the relationship a secret in the first place. No! Gilbert did not deserve to know because he had already betrayed he heart. She wanted to get back at him, but remembered the times where Roderich said that it was better to let nature run its course. If she tried to get revenge, then she would be the villain. If she let him be, their friends would make him a villain themselves.

"Answer me!" Gilbert shouted.

She opened her mouth to answer, but when nothing came out Gilbert turned back to face the window. Their relationship had been dead for months, she realized. They just hadn't done anything. They let it fester and rot like a wound and now it had killed everything they had. They could have fixed it, but instead they had left it as it was, even when their interests drifted to other people. Elizaveta may not have cheated but it was because she hadn't shown any interest in fixing things that Gilbert had. She bowed her head. They were both to blame in this. She wondered how Ludwig would take it. He liked how she could control his brother. He thought she was going to make his brother an honest man, a good person.

"You stood by my side all of these years and now you're just going to walk out?"

"This is goodbye."

So began the first steps of her new life and walked away.
