"Alfred, can I talk to you?"

Alfred looked up and saw Elizaveta – another student from his year. The guys around him all gave wolf whistles when they saw her. She was, after all, one of the prettier and popular girls of school, yet she was not conceded about it. She hung out with everyone and anyone who offered her a smile, particularly you. Now, you had asked her a favor. Prom was coming up. You were far too nervous to ask yourself, but she was outgoing. So you pleaded your case to her, begging for her aid in this. She already had a date. She was going with Roderich – her longtime boyfriend from the beginning of high school. They were already voted most likely to be high school sweethearts. You didn't doubt it either, because they truly were perfect together.

"Alone?" she asked when he didn't move.

"Sure," the boy shrugged.

Alfred got up, waving for his friends to go on to the cafeteria and that he would catch up later. Who actually wanted to go to the cafeteria for mystery meat anyways? Alfred personally had two subway subs waiting for him in his locker, one for lunch and one for after football practice. Weight lifting always made him hungry. For a moment, the two walked in silence and it was awkward because neither knew what to say. Elizaveta was nervous. But she took a deep breath. She was doing this for a friend. What better excuse did she have to be talking to the star quarterback of the football team?

"Alfred, um, do you want to go to prom?" she asked, "With ___________?"

Alfred stares at her for a moment, trying to comprehend what it was Elizaveta just asked. Alfred remembered you. How could he forget? You were the reason he had gotten to play this year in football because he was failing a class. You had helped him study and pass with flying colors. Now, it was one of his favorite classes because he understood it all. He could also recall how stuttering and shy you were. You blushed every time he looked at you. He thought your face was going to stay red from embarrassment. It was cute, but he saw you like a little sibling. If you started talking to him, he would talk back, but you had not spoken to him outside of the class. He thought you disliked him.

"You're serious…" He said, realization dawning on him.

Realization dawned on him what it was that Elizaveta was asking. She wanted you and Alfred to go to prom together? He looked over at you. You were laughing with that Filipino boy who was an exchange student. You could laugh with him without going beat red. Alfred knew how you felt for Juan – the student from the Philippines. You didn't want to go to prom with Alfred. You would have been better off with the other boy, yet for some reason you had fixated yourself on Alfred. Perhaps, that was because at the end of the school year, Alfred would not go back to another country but Juan would. You didn't want to have your heart broken.

"__________ needs to go with Juan… Liz, what should we do?"

She smiled. At least she wasn't the only one to feel this way. She had tried to convince you time and time again to ask Juan out. It was obvious of your crush. You denied it and would probably continue to deny it until you were dead or Juan confronted you. So, Alfred and Elizaveta had to get him to confess to you, how he felt. It shouldn't be too hard. He was a passionate romantic, especially because of his cousin Antonio's influence on his life. The boy was always smiling too, but it seemed they may have to cause some tears in order to make him jump in and save the day like he should have done a long time ago.

"Here's the plan…"

However, when prom came around, Alfred left you standing outside the school, waiting for him. You saw him walk in with another girl, one who was prettier than you, smarter than you and all around more outgoing than you could ever hope to be. She looked at you over her shoulder and gave you a smug smirk. Tears welled up in your eyes. Juan stood outside the gates, watching the whole ordeal. He had wanted to ask you, but because you had Elizaveta ask Alfred for you, he decided to step down, but now that you were standing heartbroken and teary eyed outside the doors to the dance hall, he had to do something.

"Alfred!"

Alfred turned around to find Juan storming over to him. Juan had feelings for you. They were strong feelings at that. Therefore, your happiness came first. Naturally, he respected Alfred, despite minor fights the two had, particularly since Alfred could be rather controlling during some of the group projects and labs the two did together but he still respected him. It was a lot more than Juan could say for other people like Ivan or that German kid Gilbert. Now, he wasn't so sure whether it was about respect or not. You were involved and whenever you were involved, his judgment was clouded. You were not someone who deserved being toyed with. Juan was pretty sure that if you asked him to jump off a bridge, he would without question and that undying devotion scared him out of his mind, especially since he was still in high school and had the rest of his life to find the one.

But you seemed to be the one anyways.

"You're a bastardo! You know that, don't you?"

"Whoa, whoa! Juan buddy, cool your jets bro! It's not like that!"

Juan just about saw red. He knew you were standing behind him, crying. Elizaveta had left Roderich's side and was holding you. There was a tissue pressed to your face and your mascara would run if you cried any harder but now you were watching the Filipino man. Curiosity was now immersed on your face. You sniffled softly. Juan knew now that it was not the time to back down. Respect for Alfred or not, your well being came first. He grew soft for you. Leaving would just nearly kill him, but so long as you never knew, he felt that it would have been fine. But it seemed that keeping this silent was not an option anymore.

"You made _____________ cry!" Juan roared in fury, "How is it not like that?"

Juan narrowed his eyes darkly as he glowered at the American. He folded his arms across his chest, waiting for a good explanation as to why Alfred had done something as cruel as he had done. You had dinner at Juan's house, meeting most of his family in the process. His mother made embarrassing comments about what a great wife you would make for him if only you were dating. His father remarked on how pretty you were. Antonio told the two of you to use a condom if you decided to try 'anything'. Juan had punched him for that one, making Antonio's friend Romano laugh at his friend's misfortune. Needless to say, Juan was horrified by his family, but you rather enjoyed the chaos that it caused. You had told him it was one of the best dinners in your entire life.

"Juan, bro, __________ wanted to go out with me because after this school year you go back home, man…"

Horror struck the Filipino as he stared at the American. Your reaction to all of this somehow crept into his shock stricken mind but he was too frozen with fear and anticipation to actually check for himself. Sweat was welling up on his brow and he swallowed thickly. His throat had gone dry. Now things were getting interesting. The ever so courteous German student – Ludwig – was barking at other students to get into the dance hall, forcing them to pay no mind to you or to the Filipino. He was going back to his home, yes. But for Alfred to suggest you liked him back was something akin to a dream. He wanted to believe it so badly that he could practically taste it. If Alfred was telling the truth he would have been the happiest man in the world.

"__________, Juan loves you!"

Juan paled. How could Alfred do this to him? Sure, the America knew of his crush on you but to announce it to your face after standing you up? Juan wasn't sure what to say. He floundered for words as Alfred gathered his date and flashed the two of them a smile. By this time, Elizaveta dragged Roderich away as well. He knew you were standing behind him, holding one of Roderich's hand stitched handkerchiefs do dry your eyes. The parking lot was empty. Ludwig had done an excellent job of terrifying the other students into going into the hall without finding out what happened with you and Juan.

"Well, I'mma leave you two to think 'bout it! Just remember, no hickies!"

And Alfred left, just like that, dragging his date along after him. Juan couldn't move, couldn't breathe. The cat was out of the bag now. He had to man up like Vash threatened a lot of students to do – particularly the art student from Japan named Kiku. Juan felt bad for the Japanese man, but now was not the moment to think of that, not when he knew you were just a few feet behind him. He could hear the padding of your footsteps as you moved closer, hesitantly, fearfully, as if you were afraid that if you drew too close Juan would instantly teleport back to the Philippines. That was unlikely to happen but his heart was racing too. He feared you would be able to hear it.

"J-Juan… is… that true?" you whispered.

Juan slowly turned around to face you. You were standing right behind him. He smiled weakly, knowing that you were struggling with what Alfred just told you. He was lost as to what to do as well. But then he took your face in his hands and leaned down, pressing a tender kiss to your lips. It was so sweet, so gentle that it brought tears to your very eyes.

I've never worked with the Philippines before. I really hope he's in character.
