Literature Text

You were humming a tune as you rocked back and forth in the rocking chair that America had hand carved for you once he found out you were pregnant – as a baby shower gift from your good friend. You looked around the room. There were many gifts from your friends. Italy volunteered himself as babysitter, though you might not take him up on the offer. Japan sent over plush toys. China had brought over toys. Even countries like England and France had given you something in honor of your pregnancy. You looked down at your son. The little boy was fast asleep in your arms. You couldn't help but smile.

"Did you fall asleep on mutter little one?" a voice asked.

You smiled, not even needing to look up to see Germany – your husband walking over to you. He walked over to them and gently touched your son's forehead. He slumbered on. Germany watched you in the chair and his son – family to him now, the ones he cared most for, someone he had to protect and look after. This moment was something he had always dreamed of, something he had tried to create. He had wanted a peaceful, loving family. He didn't know how to do it back when he was younger. He hadn't expected a family to find him, and yet, that's what happened. ___________ had simply walked into his life, turned everything upside down, and supported him in a way Germany never thought possible. You taught him how to live, and how to love. There was no way to repay you for all you had done, nothing Germany could think of.

"It's just a little nerve vracking…"

You raised an eye brow, wondering what could be so scary about the child sleeping, but then you realized he wasn't talking about that. He was staring down at your son with sadness in his eyes. You looked up at your husband, taking in his tired features. Sure, the baby had woken you both up with his wails. You had leapt from your bed the moment you heard the cry. Germany had reached for his gun until he realized it was just his little boy crying for the two you to give him some attention. Turns out, he was just hungry, so you fed him, burped him and then changed him before rocking him to sleep. All while you did this, Germany watched, hovering over you like a mother hen. Luckily Prussia had moved out and was rooming with Canada from now on. He wouldn't have been too happy with his nephew waking him up the way he did.

"What's this? The mighty Germany admitting fear?" you teased.

"I'm not like everyone else, ___________… Soldiers vere never around their children often. It's a big responsibility. Ve have to provide him vith things and protect him…"

You reached out and took his hand, giving it a light squeeze. This was something you had never thought of before you had the baby. Germany had been excited, ecstatic really. You had never seen him look so happy before. He had proudly introduced you as his fiancée the next month also informing the other nations you were pregnant. Italy had been the one who insisted on a baby shower. He had taken care of a lot of things, really stepping up. He wanted to prove to Germany that he could be a good uncle for the baby. Ultimately, Italy and Japan were named the baby's godfathers, should anything happen. Prussia was also dubbed a godfather, albeit hesitantly. But Prussia had cleaned himself up a bit.

"I don't vant to blow this…" Germany admitted.

You smiled. It was good that Germany was telling you this. It meant he would be able to overcome it in the future. Raising children was a difficult task, especially for nations. They always had to put their country first, family was second. America had that decision when he broke away from England. His people wanted free, so he had to agree. At least the two nations had some semblance of a normal relationship now. You knew that wars could tear families apart. The Soviet Union fell. They had family dynamics, though most of them were forced by Russia, who simply didn't want to be alone. Nations fell and others vanished. Look at Germania, Rome and Holy Rome. No one knew what happened to them after they were eventually defeated.

"Want me to let you in on a little secret?" you asked.

Germany blinked owlishly before slowly nodded, hesitantly, perhaps hoping for some insight. When he found out you were pregnant, he had gotten so many books on how to be a good father, but really it was a hands-on learning experience. He was trying to be the big strong soldier you were used to – the one he thought you married him for. You just smiled, bringing his hand to your lips, kissing his knuckles. He leaned down next to you. His back must have hurt, you realized. He had been standing since the moment the baby started crying. He had been doing anything you asked of him. You appreciated it. He had gotten the burp cloth ready as you fed your son, even changed the baby because he didn't want you to have to get up from the chair. He was so attentive and you hoped he never changed.

"I'm scared too…"

"Huh?"

"I mean, I've taken care of kids before but this is different… This is actually my child – our child… And I'm afraid I'll mess up too…" you admitted, "But that's the thing. We're going to learn along the way and sure we'll mess up sometimes but I'm sure we can do it!"

Germany smiled. You leaned up just enough to kiss him below the chin. He then pulled back, kissing you firmly on the lips. Your son gurgled in your arms, simply clapping his hands. You both looked down at him, smiling to yourselves. He was in that stage where he was sticking things in his mouth. He just seemed to figure out he had fingers and toes. He also seemed to think that fingers and toes were good to eat, which meant saliva covered fingers and equally slimy toes. He looked up at you with replicas of Germany's bright blue eyes. He blinked and tilted his head to the side, as if wondering why you were staring at him. He was just doing normal baby things after all. You smiled and leaned your head against Germany's shoulder.

"Ich liebe dich…" he whispered.

"I love you too," you whispered.
So yeah, another one in my Papa!CountryXReader series.

This one just seemed to fit Germany. I mean, he's the prefect soldier so naturally, he'd be a bit worried about doing something off the field, where his family had no ties. I mean, Prussia wasn't the best of big brothers, off trying to invade vital regions and such, but when it was his turn, he'd be nervous.

Aw, this is so Cute! 💕 I think it is so cute how Germany is worried about being a good dad. I would like to see how he will deal with his son as a teenager. Lol the drama. 😆
